Most siding and window failures we see aren't caused by the siding or the window itself. They come from water getting behind it, and in Central Texas, with heavy spring storms followed by months of heat and humidity, that water has plenty of chances to cause rot.
The fix starts underneath. Before new siding goes on, the wall gets a proper weather barrier, house wrap lapped the right direction, and flashing at every window, door, and penetration. That layer is what keeps the framing dry for decades.
For siding, fiber cement and engineered wood both handle our climate well and hold paint. Board-and-batten is a natural fit for farmhouses around Round Top. Whatever you choose, it needs the right gap at trim and corners and the right fasteners so it can move with temperature swings.
For windows, look at the frame material, the installation, and the glass. A good window installed poorly will leak. We set windows level and square, flash the sill pan first, and seal the exterior in the right order.
