A kitchen remodel goes smoothest when the big decisions are made before demolition starts. Changing your mind about the layout after the cabinets are ordered is the fastest way to add time and cost.
Start with layout. Decide whether the sink, range, and refrigerator stay where they are. Moving plumbing and gas is possible, but it adds work. An island is a great addition if you have at least three to four feet of clearance on every side.
Next, cabinets and countertops. Painted shaker cabinets, butcher block, and stone are all popular in farmhouse kitchens around here. Pick your countertop before final cabinet measurements so overhangs and sink cutouts line up.
Floors come next. If you have original wood floors, they can often run right through the kitchen and be refinished with the rest of the house. If not, we match or blend new flooring to adjoining rooms.
The order of work is usually demolition, rough plumbing and electrical, drywall or wall boards, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring and trim, then paint and fixtures. We give you a written scope and price that lays this out before we start.
